Child care program which caters for vulnerable children in the communities of mayuge district. the communities are led by community management committees [CMCs] which carry out the following activities with support from GOSACAM field staff;
Carry out selection of every needy children in their communities,
Monitor children under support ensuring they attend school, receive their scholastic materials, and uniforms. This has reduced on the drop-out rate of children in the communities and supports the Universal Primary Education system.
Monitor use of UPE funds in ‘GOSACAM’ supported schools.
Supervise use of funds allocated by GOSACAM to feed, accommodate homeless children.
Promote child rights in schools, protection of he girl child against defilement and any other form of child abuse.
Responsible for assessing the needs of Orphans in Communities, and mobilize community support for them.
The Early childhood care and Development program
At community level, GOSACAM has organizes ECD seminars for parents and care givers.
GOSACAM, through community based childcare trainers has established community ECD centers[CECDC] which cater for the early learning needs of children.
Trainers conduct home visits during which they interact with parents and caregivers to ensure that the rights of children are realized and positive parenting is practiced.
Emphasis in ECD program is put on hygiene, sanitation, Nutrition, immunization against killer diseases, and play development.
Under the ECD program, GOSACAM, has organized child rights clubs supervised by community child clubs committees.
They teach children their rights and responsibilities.
Create awareness on child rights, child abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
Mobilize in and out of school children to promote rights through music Dance and Drama competitions.
Caring for children affected by HIV/AIDS. In partnership with other child based organizations, GOSACAM carries out the following:
Community child care counseling program.
Organizing seminars on HIV/AIDS in communities.
Providing counseling and training community counselors.
Identifying and assessing needs of the affected families both adults and children.
Mobilizing adolescents and sensitizing them on HIV/AIDS.
Micro-credit program:
Sensitize communities on income generating activities to increase household income.
Provide small loans to families to raise income at house level through small scale household projects.
Street children program:
Supporting street children and other CBOs which provide vocational training to street children. GOSACAM has helped in resettling and providing warm place for the street children including orphans and desisititute children.
